Squirrel Should Be Squirrely

It really unsettles me when I walk by a squirrel and it doesn’t run away. All other squirrels run away. What makes this squirrel different? Is it planning something? Why isn’t it afraid of me? Should I be afraid of it? Is it sick with bubonic plague and as a result lost its desire for self-preservation? What is that squirrel’s  deal? Squirrels should be squirrely. Be more squirrely squirrel, you’re freaking me out.

  1. LOL! This post put a big smile on my face – which is amazing, considering that I’m working on my first cup of coffee, only one eye is open, and the super-glue on my other eye hasn’t started to dissolve yet, making my world feel a little one-sided (you might say)… πŸ˜€ Thanks for making me smile so early in the morning. πŸ™‚

  2. OH MY GOD. Yes. All the squirrels in the woods around my college just sit and stare at me, probably because they’re so used to people, but I prefer to think they’re plotting something.

  3. Never go to New Haven, CT. The squirrels there are vicious and fearless– some say it’s because Yale is running psychological experiments on them on the fly. Meanwhile, in my former town of Ann Arbor, MI, the squirrels were basically fat, spoiled town mascots.

  4. I like to think that some animals are smarter than the rest and can sniff out a human who doesn’t send strikes of fear through their animally hearts. Perhaps it’s squirrely heart saw something in you and felt safe!

  5. If this is a college campus squirrel, he’s probably hungry. Squirrels at my school never run away from people. People drop food. Your squirrel hasn’t lost his self-preservation at all. He thinks you’re a food source. Also, at a university, you might not want to stand next to trash cans. They have food in them, and therefore, they have squirrels in them.
