Even Children Mock My Fear of Dinosaurs

Little girl: What are you afraid of?

Me: Dinosaurs.

Little Girl: No. I mean what scares you?

Me: Dinosaurs.

Little Girl: That doesn’t make sense.

Me: I agree.

Little Girl: So, you aren’t scared of dinosaurs.

Me: I am definitely scared of them.

Little Girl: Maybe it’s you that doesn’t make sense.

Me: I agree with that too.

Little Girl: Let’s talk about something else.

When a 5 year old tells you your fears are ridiculous, it might be time to really focus on overcoming those fears. Or, you could be me and take “you don’t make sense” as some sort of complement and continue to fear animals that are extinct. Your call.

  1. Kids say the darnedest things. I like kids. Mostly with ketchup and a little beer batter.

Fear is fear, whether it’s dinosaurs, heights, foreigners or what have you. They’re all irrational. Except spiders. Fear of spiders is entirely rational. That’s because I’M afraid of spiders! :o)

You’re not alone 🙂 Dinosaurs of all four of the Jurassic movies freak me out. Even two nights ago I had a little nightmare because I was frightened over seeing The Lost World that afternoon. 😀

  3. Was this post, by any chance, inspired by the release of Jurassic World? Because the dinosaurs there are just as terrifying. I haven’t actually watched the movie (and probably never will, if we’re being totally honest) but I just know.

  4. “Buffy, this is all about fear. It’s understandable, but you can’t let it control you. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to anger. – No, wait, hold on. – Fear leads to hate. Hate leads to the dark side. – Hold on, no. Ahm… First you get the women, then you get the money, then you… -”

  5. If you were at a formative age when the first Jurassic Park came out then this COMPLETELY makes sense to me. I spent a few years afraid of them and never understood why kids though they were cool after that HORROR film. Luckily, I have gotten over my fear of them, but I would never mock someone who is afraid of dinosaurs because I remember the terror I felt in my heart as a kid. Still don’t really understand why people think they are cool.

  6. Steve says:

Innocence of childhood…does not recognize the real danger of dinosaurs, but is probably scared of the Chick-fil-A cow waving hello.

  7. Extinction is such a strong word… in the words of David Bowie, “it’s only forever; not long at all.” My favourite animal is the dodo. Dodos are also extinct. So I have a back up favourite animal that’s still alive: Bunnies. They may be level-pegging with dodos at this point. I figure if Jurassic Park ever comes true, they’ll bring back some dodos and I’d be first in line to get one (but only if he got along with my rabbits).

Lol such a funny conversation. But how are you going to overcome your fear? Isn’t the only way to do that…is by facing them? It seems a little impossible. Maybe watch jurassic park and world in 3D a bunch of times? Is there like an interactive dinosaur park? Sorry… I think to much.
