We Had Ants And Then We Killed Them And Now I Feel Guilty

Basically the title is the whole story. We had ants, like, a LOT of ants, in our master bathroom. Which, it turns out, was kind of my fault because I wash my face with manuka honey and ants just can’t get enough honey and I basically begged them to enter our house by keeping my honey by the shower. So, after more or less inviting the ants in, I was mad that they were here and so we sprayed the crap out of the bathroom and now they are all dead and I feel oddly guilty about it. They weren’t biting ants and really they weren’t hurting anything but I killed the lot of them because I don’t want bugs in our house. I just feel like I did something mean and wrong. But also, I’m relieved because no more bugs in our bathroom. A lot of mixed emotions y’all.

  1. Yep this is definitely me… If someone is home I like them to ‘release’ insects, but last week I had an altercation with a cockroach that no matter how many shoes I threw at it still kept running towards me. It felt like a life or death situation so I’m calling it self defence! (Really, it was HUGE!)

  2. Martha: “It’s like in the films! You step on a butterfly, you change the future of the human race!
The Doctor: I’ll tell you what, then: don’t…step on any butterflies. What have butterflies ever done to you?”
    -Doctor Who.

  3. LOL- I feel guilty when I kill bugs too. Big ones, like spiders, I catch (in a jar) and carry outside. You can’t catch ants though so, yes, if they are in the house I kill them. Sad…they have a marvelous social work order but we just can’t live with ants in the house. They way I see it, every creature has a home to defend. The ants will eat sick animals that fall in their path, and we kill ants that come into our home. It’s the circle of life. Um…just try to keep your honey somewhere else now 🙂

    1. I wish they would have just stayed outside and lived their lives – I almost never kill bugs when I’m out in nature since that’s their territory. But, when they come into my house…. sorry bugs, you got to go.

  4. This reminds me of a very gross ant experience after I accidentally forgot to toss away a…um, ahem…used feminine hygiene product, if you know what I mean. Yeah. Worst cluster of ants I’ve seen in my life and I haven’t made that mistake twice.

  5. Ants are clever creatures and deceptively strong, had you not exterminated them they would have only become a force to be reckoned with, taking over your whole home on their quest for world domination! You did the right thing.

P.S. How do you wash your face with honey? Pure, gloopy honey on your face? Pray do tell, I’m curious…

    1. Ok, that makes me feel better. 🙂

I spread a thin layer on my face and let it sit for at least 2 minutes, then I scrub it off with warm water. Manuka honey is the best but any organic raw honey should do. It’s the best face wash I’ve ever used!
