Here Is A Thought On A Friday.

When people write “Have a nice day.”  instead of writing “Have a nice day!” it makes me feel like they don’t really want me to have a nice day.

OR

It could mean they are really really serious about me having a nice day. Too serious for exclamation marks. So serious about it, that they will, in fact, beat me up if I don’t have a nice day.

Punctuation can be harsh.

  1. I’ve become an exclamation point junkie since I started blogging for this exact reason! You can’t say something great in a comment and then end it in a period! You just can’t!

  2. I think they don’t want to be too “OMG HAVE A FANTABULOUS DAY!!”, but you’re right, a period is a little bit of a downer. I wish there was a middle punctuation mark that said the right sentiment.

  3. It’s hard for me not to use exclamation marks. I have to stop myself all the time. I love them!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you have a great weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

  4. “Anya: [to a customer who just finished her purchase] Please go.
Xander: Anya, the Shopkeepers Union of America called. They wanted me to tell you that “Please go” just got replaced with “Have a nice day.”
Anya: But I have their money. Who cares what kind of day they have?
Xander: No one. It’s just a long cultural tradition of raging insincerity. Embrace it.”

  5. “Good morning!” said Bilbo, and he meant it. The sun was shining, and the grass was very green. But Gandalf looked at him from under long bushy eyebrows that stuck out farther than the brim of his shady hat.
“What do you mean?” he said. “Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?” “All of them at once,” said Bilbo. – J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit.

    Have a nice day.!?

Aw. Well, just so you know I hope you have an excellent day! Pfft at the nice days. Nice days are just nice. Excellent days are so much better than nice days, aren’t they?

Also just beat them back 😮 get that exclamation point and use it as a rubber mallet and whack ’em good! 🙂
